Photographer, poet, critic and mountaineer Anne Brigman is best known for her figurative landscape images made in the Sierra Nevada in the early 1900s. Rediscover her groundbreaking work in this major retrospective organized by the Nevada Museum of Art. The largest presentation of Brigman’s work to date, the exhibition features more than 250 photographs drawn from significant private and public collections on display until Jan. 27.
Brigman’s photography was considered radical for its time. To objectify her own nude body as the subject of her photographs at the turn of the 20th Century was groundbreaking; to do so outdoors in a near-desolate wilderness setting was revolutionary.
