Grown Your Own Festival

Come to the annual vegetable seedling sale May 31 to benefit UC Master Gardeners-Lake Tahoe and UC Davis TERC from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tallac Historic Site on the South Shore.

Learn to grow vegetables at high elevation and discuss garden problems with experts. Bring your own container to receive free compost from Full Circle Soil & Compost. Meyers Elementary will be selling plants to raise funds for its 5th grade field trip including hanging strawberry baskets, hanging flower baskets and herb seedlings. As well, there will be a seedling sale and information booths.

Grow Your Own Event

Enjoy discussions around lake-friendly gardening and cultivation techniques, various strategies to apply based on the local growing environment, history/background on featured plants, and information on how to garden organically at high elevation on June 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the UC Davis Tahoe City Field Station at Lake Forest.

TERC staff and volunteers will be onsite to provide a look into the Tahoe City Field Station and learn about the UC Davis cutting edge research. Check out the Eriksson Education Center and learn more about Lake Tahoe.

Organic compost is being donated from Full Circle Compost for all participants. Bring your own bucket, bag or container of your choice to take home compost to boost your soil for happier and healthier plants.

Locally grown plants may be purchased (cash or credit) and picked up at the festival, there are no pre-orders this year. These specific plants are featured in each workshop and are part of a long-term phenology study that will determine the plants that grow best in the region.
