Incline Village Library’s incredible staff and the building itself make it one of the best community resources in the region, and it’s not alone. Nearby is another one of North Tahoe’s greatest indoor treasures, IV Coffee Lab.
On a quest to create a gathering space that embodies the community and caters to residents, Incline Village native Matt Thralls and his wife, Allison, successfully filled a desired niche when they opened IV Coffee Lab in September 2012.
The coffee shop’s cozy interior offers a variety of seating areas, including tables, counter space and comfy armchairs, that have attracted a strong local following. Paintings, work by Sierra Nevada College teachers and students, as well as regional creations, cover the walls. Beans come from San Rafael Coffee based in Carson City, as well as Klatch Coffee based in Ontario. Tea blends come from Davidson’s Organics. Delicious muffins from Truckee-based Whole Treats include a diverse assortment of flavors with plentiful gluten and dairy free options. Truckee Bagels and Greek yogurt parfaits are available. Breakfast burritos with bacon, sausage or veggies fulfill those seeking more than a handcrafted treat from the Italian espresso machine.
“I come here for the community feel, the artsy vibe,” shared Carnelian Bay resident Amanda Ganong. “The owners are always here and really involved.”
On a recent overcast afternoon, when the peaks were graced with flurries and lake level felt a drizzle, a steady stream of people – young and old – came in for their coffee fix. All were greeted by name followed by a confirmation of their standard order.
I was tempted by one of the specials – White Winter Spice Mocha. The comforting mocha offers an especially soothing, mild blend of white chocolate and gingerbread. The foamy top just right and each sip, smooth.
Other favorites this time of year include the Snowflake Latte, an inviting mix of white chocolate and brown sugar and the French Toast, which truly tastes like French Toast.
In addition to the main shop located at 907 Tahoe Blvd. in Incline Village, the Coffee Lab opened in Prim Library on the Sierra Nevada Campus, and will soon be adding pizza pockets to the menu.
