Spindleshanks American Bistro and Bar has recently relocated from its former Tahoe Vista locale to its new location at the Old Brockway Golf Course.

I arrived at the large log cabin building to sample the food on the cusp of breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is a new addition to the restaurant’s menu.

Owner Steve Marks invited me to experience the Chilaquilles Scramble. The dish is a lovely meld of soft tortilla strips, scrambled eggs, Parmesan cheese and pico de gallo topped with avocado and sour cream. I love a good breakfast and I really enjoyed this meal. The mixture of eggs and tortillas scrambled together with cheese and Pico was delicious. The dish was reminiscent of one of my favorite homemade breakfast recipes, Migas.

Steve followed this with another breakfast favorite, Huevos Rancheros. A plate-sized flour tortilla, layered with black beans, two eggs over easy, cooked perfectly, I might add, and garnished with avocado and sour cream. This breakfast fare was wonderful.

I also tried Spindleshanks Caprese Salad served with organic heirloom tomatoes, basil and fresh mozzarella drizzled with balsamic vinegar. This was delicious, super fresh and the tomatoes were perfect.

“We use organic products whenever possible. We purchase most of our organics from the (Tahoe) Central Market,” Steve explained.

The menu at Spindleshanks offers plenty of variety. Signature dishes include Baked Oyster Biezo served with spinach, Andouille sausage and cheese and the Spindleshanks Blackened Rib Eye.

Appetizer selections include a Seared Ahi Tuna, Pan Roasted Artichokes or Oysters on the Half Shell. A variety of fresh salads also are available. Brick Chicken and Mushroom Pot Stickers, Griddled Rainbow Trout and Roasted Butternut Squash Ravioli with a Browned Butter Sage Sauce and Candied Pecans are some of the interesting and enticing entrée choices on the menu.

There is plenty of outdoor seating overlooking the golf course. The bar is large and offers ample seating. The restaurant will take over the pro shop for additional indoor seating during the winter.

Happy Hour is offered from 4 to 6 p.m. daily with $4 drink specials and appetizer specials that change daily. And, on Tuesdays it’s Happy Hour all night. Breakfast begins at 9 a.m., lunch starts at 11:30 a.m. and dinner is at 5 p.m.

Spindleshanks hosts its Grand Reopening on Sept. 28 starting at 3 p.m. with a barbecue, drink specials, Bocce Ball tournament, Longest Drive Contest, Putting Contest, Chipping Contest, raffle and entertainment by Sneaky Creatures. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for kids, which includes the all-you-can-eat barbecue buffet.
