Old Trestle Distillery brings distilling back to Truckee offering its first locally made spirit: Theory Gin. Truckee was a mecca of spirits in the late 1800s and has a rich history of distilleries, speakeasies and saloons. With the arrival of Theory Gin, Old Trestle is reviving this tradition.

Founded in 2012 by a group of friends who had a love for whiskey and the experiences that come when you blend great spirits with great company, Old Trestle bottled its first product for sale in December. Theory Gin 001 is the first in a series of gin experiments, highlighting flavors unique to the distillery’s home in the Sierra.

“We’re honored to continue the long history of distilling in Truckee,” said master distiller Jake Holshue in a press release. “Dark spirits have been aging in our Truckee facility for years, but while they rest, we wanted to introduce some of the breadth of what Old Trestle is capable of. Our first gin is a smooth, approachable style that blends well with your favorite cocktails. Local rose hips found along the banks of the Truckee River along with local Western Juniper berries foraged from the Sierra lend a balanced Truckee flavor that we’re very excited to share.”

Theory Gin 001 is available exclusively at the Old Trestle Distillery production facility in Truckee on River Park Place during regular business hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Local distribution will begin this winter and the distillery has long-term plans to launch new spirits and expand regionally to more distributors.

“We’ll have vodka soon and our first whiskey when it’s ready,” Holshue said. “You can’t rush the aging process, so we’ll have some fun with other spirits in the meantime.” | oldtrestle.com
