A cold front changed rain to snow on Feb. 14 bringing more than 2 feet of snow in 24 hours. According to the National Weather Service, snow showers will continue into Sunday, Feb. 17, with an additional 2 to 6 feet possible in the Tahoe Basin. Some ski areas season snow totals at or near 400 inches. (Tahoe’s annual average snowfall for the entire year is 409 inches.)
Avalanche danger remains high and travel is slow and slick due to gusty winds and heavy snow. Some resorts will be closed today, Feb. 15, or will have upper-elevation closures or delayed starts. Check Web sites before heading out.
