Tahoe ski resorts open for holiday weekend

Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe is one of the Tahoe ski areas opening on Nov. 11. | Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe

Many Tahoe area downhill and cross-country resorts are opening early thanks to a storm system earlier this week that blanketed the Tahoe Sierra in fresh powder, with nine regional ski areas pushing their opening dates up to this holiday weekend.

Auburn Ski Club, Boreal, Donner Ski Ranch, Mt. Rose, Nevada Nordic and Tahoe Cross Country open on Nov. 11. Heavenly, Kirkwood and Northstar will open Nov. 12.

As well, the tubing area at Donner Ski Ranch will open Nov. 11, with Granlibakken opening its tubing area on Nov. 12.

Many ski areas will only be operating for the long holiday week and closed midweek. Most require advance lift ticket purchases with limited or no ticket sales at the resorts. Check schedules and ticket requirements before visiting.
