Unlike other food and wine festivals, the Downtown Truckee Wine, Walk & Shop has a unique local feel. Downtown Truckee is rich in culture and diversity, each shop merchant and restaurant brings something different to the quaint mountain town.
A fine selection of wines and beers from more than 30 different wineries and breweries are available to sample, each paired with participating venues in the heart of downtown. There is a complimentary taxi service provided before and after the event.
Humane Society benefit
Over the past nine years, the Downtown Truckee Wine, Walk & Shop event has donated more than $30,000 to local nonprofit organizations. Past partners include Tahoe SAFE Alliance, Girls on the Run and Sierra Senior Services. An important component of the event is to give back to the community and support the many valuable nonprofits in the area. This year’s nonprofit partner, the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe, was founded in 1994 by a group of committed volunteers, and has become a driving force in animal rescue and adoption for the Truckee region. They are “dedicated to saving and improving the lives of pets through adoptions, community spay/neuter services and humane education programs.”
September has been an historic month for the organization, culminating in the much-anticipated move to a new shelter in Truckee on Sept. 28. Before the move, Truckee did not have a public shelter for homeless pets. The new facility will enable the Humane Society to provide the care needed for the hundreds of animals they receive each year. The new shelter is located at 10961 Stevens Lane, Truckee.
