High Sierra Music Festival
Do something different for the Fourth of July this year. Bring the family to Plumas Sierra County Fairground for four days of camping, music and art at the High Sierra Music Festival.

Begin the day with Vinyasa Flow before completing some arts and crafts with the kids. Catch a few bands and enjoy a meal from one of the local vendors. In the evening, the kids can enjoy a slumber party with Rockin’ Nannies while Mom and Dad dance the night away at one of the headlining shows before resting up to do it all over. High Sierra Music Festivals work hard to create an event that is fun and safe for all ages.

This year’s music line-up features some big names and a wide variety of sounds from bluegrass and funk to electronic world fusion and R&B. Widespread Panic headlines the bill, bringing an aggressive jam band style. Sound Tribe Sector 9 (STS9) will play a full set of instrumental rock, psychedelic funk and electronic jams. Fans of R&B will enjoy the soulful vocals of Ms. Lauryn Hill and bluegrass fans are sure to enjoy sets by Trampled by Turtles and Greensky Bluegrass. The experimental world music electronica group are sure to play a show that stimulates all the senses with grooving jams and sultry moves from belly dancer and front-woman Zoe Jakes. Tahoe locals, Dead Winter Carpenters will join the stage and get the crowd moving. With many more great musicians scheduled to play, there’s sure to be something for everyone.

Family fun
In an effort to make this event fun for the whole family, event organizers provide a separate family camping area for those who prefer to be quieter at night and awake early. Field day activities will be ongoing for little ones who need a break from the music. Opportunities to create and recycle music instruments, costumes and other crafts will be offered and a collective family art mural will be completed. A daily parade will take place with the opportunity to be part of the festivities. The family stage will be home to kid-friendly entertainment including puppet shows and the Bug Family string band and the Banana Slug string band. On July 5, family members may sign up for a naturalist-led hike and swim trip at near by Bucks Lake. Childcare options also are available. From 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. each night the Rockin’ Nannies provide games and activities during the Rockin’ Slumber Party. The Rockin’ Nannies are a group of education professionals who have experience working in large event childcare. Private also care is offered and must be booked in advance.

Days full of activities
Activities for adults are offered daily, as well. Participants may enjoy yoga in the morning or warm up with Zumba and Pilates. Learn a new skill such as AcroYoga, holistic hoop dance or poi spinning. Vendors from around the globe will be offering clothing, jewelry, blown glass and more. Additionally, a wide variety of foods including vegan, vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, will be offered with an emphasis on healthy and organic ingredients.

A number of camping options including RV spaces or tent spaces are available. Camping passes are included with multi-day event tickets. Event organizers work hard to keep this event as low-impact as possible. Clean Vibes will be on site to manage waste and recycling. Leave No Trace principles are encouraged through a Leave No Trace Campsite Challenge contest where campsites are nominated for being green and entered to win prizes.

Three- and four-day passes are available, as well as single day tickets. For full festival details including the entire line-up of musicians, visit highsierramusic.com.
