Tahoe Mountain Brewing Co. has become Tahoe City’s local pub since it opened in 2012 brewing craft beers and serving good eats on the North Shore. Since then, they’ve expanded their operations with The Bottle Shop in Truckee offering more than 300 beers, meads and ciders from around the world, and The Brewery tasting room, also in Truckee, with 15 taps to sample the craft brews.

With six local craft brews offered year-round at the pub from the light and crisp Local Lager to the velvety smooth Sugar Pine Porter (one of my personal favorites), Tahoe Mountain Brewing has expanded Tahoe’s local offerings. As well, you’ll want to check out the seasonal specialty beers by ordering a sampler.

After ordering beers, try some of the Small Plates with an interesting selection designed to pair well with your brew. I’m a sucker for the fried Chickpeas tossed with garlic, salt, pepper and paprika; they are addictive. My other favorite is the handmade Pretzel Bites topped with salt and served a side of beer mustard. You also can opt for the Bacon Wrapped Pretzel Bites to kick it up a notch, or go all out and indulge in the Loaded Tots – and they do mean loaded – with pulled pork, nacho cheese, bacon bits, sour cream and green onions.

For the main course, choose from the traditional burger and pub faire selections including the beer-battered Pub Fish & Chips, House Smoked Bratwurst and Pub Tacos with pulled pork or beer-battered cod.

I’m a fan of the housemade veggie burger and I like to order the Black & Blue Burger with Cajun spices and Gorgonzola with a side of the housemade chips.

On the lighter side and definitely not a traditional pub offering, are the tasty Ahi Tacos with a housemade Asian Slaw topped with a yummy Sriracha aioli and wasabi sauce served with a side of housemade won ton chips.
