Enjoy live music, craft beer and the beautiful setting of Squaw Valley while raising money for Disabled Sports USA during the 25th annual Foam Fest on Aug. 30. Beer enthusiasts may enjoy a selection of more than 50 craft beers from breweries from across the region.
Additionally, the Hit the Slopes raffle will feature great prizes to prepare for the winter season. Skis, snowboards, season passes and lift tickets are just a few of the many things participants can look forward to winning.
In addition to great beers, prizes and people, Foam Fest also features rocking music for a fantastic afternoon of dancing. Don’t miss the Los Angeles-based folk rock family band Miner taking the stage at 2 p.m. Formed around the husband and wife duo, Justin and Kate Miner, along with brother, Jeremy Miner, the band began as a project inspired from a trip through Central and South America and the full lineup was finalized with the addition of Nicholas Spiller on bass and Tobias Urbanczyk on drums. A Kickstarter-funded bedroom recording studio allowed the band to release its debut album, “The Morning” in February. The group has formed a solid fan base while on the road and has shared the stage at the Lost Sierra Hoedown.
Stick around after Miner and finish the party with Hot Buttered Rum at 3:30 p.m. A group formed on a back-packing trip in the High Sierra has brought together five Northern Californian musicians who live for creating songs that accompany life. Taking the stage at bluegrass festivals across the country including Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, Telluride Bluegrass Festival and High Sierra Music Festival, Hot Buttered Rum’s onstage presence is a direct result of their chemistry together as musicians. Their songs of good times, bad times and times in between are belted out in three-part harmonies that when combined with tasteful percussion and melodic acoustic sounds, perfectly captures the spirit of Northern California.
Disabled Sports USA is the pioneer in adaptive sports and recreation programs for people with disabilities. The program began in the late 1960s when Jim Winthers brought together a group of Vietnam Veterans to support each other as they learned to cope with disabilities stemming from injuries incurred in war. The veterans taught themselves to ski and the idea for an adaptive sports program was born. Today Disabled Sports USA operates at several locations across the nation. Volunteer instructors work throughout the season to provide affordable access to skiing and snowboarding to people with a wide variety of disabilities. Events such as Foam Fest provide funding to ensure that these programs and equipment are available to as many interested participants as possible.
Join the fun in the Village at Squaw Valley and support the mission of Disabled Sports at Squaw Valley. Tickets are available for $25 in advance or $30 at the door and include unlimited beer tasting. Music fans can skip the beer tasting and enjoy the music for a $10 suggested donation.
