The ultimate battle returns to the Village at Squaw Valley on Sept. 5 putting local bands and restaurants to the test. Chicken wing and music fans will flock to Guitar Strings vs. Chicken Wings for the chance to vote for his or her favorite bands and recipes and crown the 2014 champions.
Seven Squaw Valley restaurants will be cooking their signature recipes for spicy, flavor packed wings. This year, PlumpJack Café and Bar has joined the competition for the first time pitted against Fireside Pizza, 22 Bistro, Mamasake, Rocker@Squaw, The Auld Dubliner and The Cantina.
Participants pay $5 for three wing samples and enjoy beer and drink specials at each location. An additional $5 entry earns participants 10 wooden nickels to be used for voting throughout the night.
In addition, each location will host one of seven local musicians, each competing in a battle of the bands and the ultimate prize of a paid gig at Squaw Valley.
Get down to some local funk from Drop Theory who will be playing at 22 Bistro or head over to Fireside Pizza for some rock with Bad Move Smooth, and the sounds of Montana at Mamasake. Mike Fricke will be serving up jams at PlumpJack Café while Coburn Station lays down the blues at Rocker@Squaw, with Quite Frankly at The Auld Dubliner and Seraphin at Cornice Cantina. Whatever your flavor, there is something for everyone, so head out and support your favorite jams.
Proceeds from the entry donation will benefit Tahoe Institutde of Natural Science, a local, member-supported nonprofit organization seeking to advance the natural history, conservation and ecosystem knowledge of the Tahoe region through science, education and outreach.
Registration to vote starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Events Plaza in the Village at Squaw Valley with categories for Wing vs. Wing, Band vs. Band, and Best Wing & Band Pairing.
