A recent wave of storms has brought fresh snow to the Tahoe Basin since Jan. 5 with some resorts reporting nearly 3 feet for the three-day storm total. Sugar Bowl and Boreal picked up the most snow at the top of Donner Summit with 33 inches and 25 inches, respectively, since the afternoon of Jan. 5.

Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows reported 23 inches and Northstar received 20 inches. Over on the east side, Mount Rose reported 20 inches. While the storm seemed to favor the North Shore, Heavenly Mountain Resort picked up 7 inches since Jan. 5 and Kirkwood and Sierra-at-Tahoe each reported 23 inches.
I was able to escape for a few turns on the morning of Jan. 7 at Mount Rose where the snow was deep and the crowds were non-existent. Crews worked hard to open the Chutes by 10 a.m. where we enjoyed a few laps before calling it a day. Rumor around town is that the skiing and riding was good no matter where you chose to make some turns.
We’ll see more snow returning on Friday, Jan. 8 through Saturday, Jan. 9. Forecasts are expecting up to an additional 2 feet along the Western crest through the weekend.
