Community of Writers goes virtual

The Community of Writers has announced that it will return in 2021 with its workshops held entirely online in the Virtual Valley. For more than 50 summers, the Community of Writers has brought together poets and prose writers for separate weeks of workshops in Olympic Valley to assist writers in the refinement of their craft.

This year’s workshops will be held June 19 to 26 for Poetry, July 11 to 17 for Fiction and Aug. 1 to 6 for Narrative Nonfiction and Memoir. The application deadline for all three workshops is March 28.

As well, the group recently changed its name to drop Squaw Valley. “We recognize this name has a painful and derogatory legacy which has been disrespectful to the Native American community and goes against everything we stand for. We are now known as the Community of Writers,” the group announced in a press release.

The group will also be offering writing workshops with Janet Fitch from Jan. 22 to 24, private poetry consultations on Jan. 29 and Fiction and Memoir First Aid on Jan. 30. | communityofwriters.org
