Northstar ·
Designed by Robert Muir Graves, the Northstar course will likely challenge golfers of all ability levels. This course is unique in that the first nine, appropriately called the Meadow Nine, is more open and plays like a links-style course. As a result, golfers are given more margin for error and can use their driver on all of the par 4s and par 5s.
On the other hand, the second nine, called the Mountain Nine, requires precise play through tree-lined fairways and across small greens. Your driver is likely to stay in your bag for the majority of these holes and water is a factor on eight of the nine holes.
Toughest Hole
Moving on to the toughest hole on the course based on handicap the par 5, 7th hole, which measures 582 yards. This hole requires three good shots to have a chance at par or even bogey. The fairway is narrow with a lake on the left that comes into play after approximately 230 yards. The green is multi-level. I would advise that one should lay up short of the green since it is likely a three putt from the back of this green.
Signature Hole
The signature hole is the par 5, 18th hole measuring 552 yards. If you tee off from the two-star or three-star tees, you are teeing off in an Aspen grove. Your tee shot needs to be precise in order to get out of the trees and onto the fairway, which slightly doglegs to the right, so a fade works well. Coming down the tree-lined fairway at sunset is absolutely beautiful with spectacular views of Martis Valley. This hole is the perfect embodiment of Northstar’s course – a unique mountain/meadow Tahoe course that could not exist at any other location.
