Slightly Stoopid headlined a sold out show July 18 at the Montbleu Casino in Stateline, Nev. Joined by Tribal Roots, The Grouch and Eligh, and Atmosphere for their Kickin’ Up Dust tour, the band attracted a diverse crowd ranging from young adults ready to dance the night away to the reggae beats, to old school punk rockers introducing their kids to the concert scene.

Backed by a glowing sunset behind the stage, Atmosphere blazed through an energetic set including favorite hits such as “Sunshine” and “God Loves Ugly.” The crowd got a special treat when lyricist Slug took over the DJ set for a quick song. Atmosphere ended their set with “Lovelife,” which left the crowd chanting for more.

Slightly Stoopid took the stage just as the sun dropped below the horizon. The band kept the energy high, turning classic favorites into jam sessions featuring searing solos from Karl Denson and DeLa on saxophone and C-Money on Trumpet. Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald showed off some of their musical diversity taking turns switching between bass and guitar throughout the night. It only got better when the group was joined by reggae artist Don Carlos for several songs including “Marijuana” from their newest album and “On Top of the World,” which features collaborations with Carlos and other artists including G. Love and Barrington Levy.

Slightly Stoopid ended their set with “We Don’t Want To Go” from their latest album, but it was clear they weren’t ready to leave when they returned to the stage for a lengthy encore with guest appearances from members of Tribal Seeds, Don Carlos, The Grouch and Atmosphere. As the night ended, the crowd was left wanting more and the sounds of Slightly Stoopid and Atmosphere were heard from car stereos across the parking lot late into the night.
