“I want to make you laugh and sing and clap and shake your rumps.”
Joyful and sexy
Amy Steinberg believes that life is too short to take it so seriously and she backs up that philosophy in her music. A song-slinging, mood-shifting woman with the power to lift you up and soothe your spirit, Steinberg has a knack for telling a story with a voice that can burn down the house. Deeply soulful with her bombastic belt, she sings of self-love, open-mindedness and the holiness of everything.
“I want to make you feel good about yourself. I want you to recognize the miraculous world that you live in. I want to empower you. I want to make you laugh and sing and clap and shake your rumps,” she says.
Pretty big goals, yet Steinberg manages to achieve them again and again in a live setting, making each one unique and tailor made to the audience. Listening to Steinberg is like experiencing a two-week long, soul-healing retreat or like pure, divine, transformational magic. However you are feeling before you walk in, you are bound to feel even better after experiencing Steinberg’s presence and listening to her words of whimsy and wisdom. Her shows display wildly innovative musicality combined with extraordinary performance skills to create an arousing environment.
Steinberg is a singer, songwriter and storyteller like none other. The main thrust of her work comes from marrying the sacred and profane — fusing the dreamlike nature of spirit with the rooted realness of sexuality and humor. She plays the piano and guitar with her own swingy rhythmic bounce, injecting shades of jazz, rock, hip-hop and poetry, all with a theatrical flair. Her shows are a mix of comedy, music, theater and spirituality.
With irreverent humor and crafty intelligence, Steinberg uses her original music and poetry to promote tolerance, openness and diversity. Combining a sassy sensibility with a loquacious socio-political and spiritual awareness, she brings forth a fresh and solid energy.
“I was born to perform. From the time I was a tiny tot I knew that I would entertain in a snazzy way,” she says.
She performs positive, uplifting songs with an energy and zest that makes her compelling to watch. Between songs, she tells stories funny enough to be part of a stand-up comedy routine. However, her appeal lies not only in her musical and comedic talents, but in the way she somehow makes every person in the audience feel special – like you’re good friends, even if you’ve never met.
“I try to make every one of my live shows a one-of-a-kind experience — each one different and special. Part healing, part laughter, part raw honesty, my goal is to make you feel good,” she says.
Steinberg encourages everyone to embrace God – whatever the vision/version of God might be – embrace ourselves and embrace each other. Her themes include woman power, faith, sexuality, acceptance and love. Her memorable songs brim with choruses and thought-provoking lyrics.
Playing and composing music is only one of Steinberg’s many creative undertakings. She writes and performs one-woman shows, paints vibrant acrylic pieces and she is a budding novelist. This triple-plus threat gives us a sassy blend of spiritual, pop, rock, folk, funk, hip-hop, comedy, poetry and blues. Quite an inspirational little package.
