Tahoe National Forest has released an Over Snow Vehicle Use Map, which shows where on the USDA Forest Service lands snowmobiles are allowed to go and where they are prohibited. The map implements the OSV Use Designation plan adopted in May 2024. With the publication of the map, the new plan goes into effect immediately, according to a press release.
Currently, the map is only available on the Forest Service website or in the Avenza app. Until paper maps and trailhead signs are available, most of the public will be unaware that a new plan exists or where it is legal for snowmobiles to travel. Paper maps are expected to be available at Forest Service offices soon.
The map is available to download here.
