Sometimes it takes a while, and this year, it took quite a while, but the Snow Gods have smiled on the Tahoe Sierra and we are now officially FebruBuried! And I do mean buried.
As I write this from Tahoe Guide headquarters on the North Shore, it’s already snowed 3 feet and it’s still coming. Expect to see large accumulations of snow falls at all Tahoe-area ski areas, which means spectacular conditions are in store for downhill and cross-country skiing, as well as for tubing, snowshoeing and other winter activities.
This also means that the traffic will be heavy and getting over the passes will be gnarly. If you want to avoid the traffic and possible highway closures, wait until the snow stops to travel to Tahoe.
Read my tips on driving in winter conditions, check road conditions by dialing 5-1-1 and learn how to put on your snow chains by watching our video.
Be safe and enjoy the snow.
